Great August Weather

The 2024 Perseids Meteor Shower Party will feature three nights of camping under dark, dark skies, along with two nights of astronomy lectures and one movie night, huge telescopes, photography workshops, giveaways, and more! Camp onsite in your favorite tent/RV/van setup., or get a hotel room in nearby Lovelock. The event is situated on 57 private acres in scenic Sage Valley, Nevada — about 35 minutes off the I-80 freeway exit from Lovelock, NV (map below). The area lies at an elevation of about 4400’ and features great weather and great views. The average August temps are low 90s during the day and 50s overnight — absolutely great conditions when it comes to dark sky locations in The West!

Perseids 2024 — Dark Skies with an approaching first quarter moon

The 2024 Perseids will happen just before a first quarter moon, which means we’ll enjoy a moonset followed by dark skies. In addition to viewing one of the best meteor showers of the year, the Milky Way will be soaring overhead all night, and Saturn and Jupiter will be visible as well.

• Astronomy lectures on Friday and Saturday nights, and movie night on Sunday

• Saturday afternoon Q&A with the astronomer

• Night sky viewing through several huge telescopes

• Optional add-on nightscape photography workshops with Danilo Chacon (IG: @danilo7chacon) on the nights of the 9th and 10th — Bring your DSLR or mirrorless camera, tripod, lenses (wide angle preferred), and handheld timer if you have one

• Hoping to get a food truck for at least one of the days/nights! (Not yet confirmed but working on it)

• Bring your own tent/RV/van/favorite to camp onsite, or, if you prefer a hotel room they are available in Lovelock (about a 35 minute drive)

• Giveaways TBA

• Any type of vehicle can make it to this remote property

• This rural location has no amenities except for porta-potties, so please bring your car-camping setup. There is no water or electricity onsite. Bring yourself a shade structure if you plan to hang around camp during the day.

• There is no trash or recycling service — please pack it in and pack it out

• Average August temperatures feature daytime highs in the low 90s and overnight lows in the 60s/50s

• Friendly dogs are allowed

• Small campfires are allowed — but please shield your fire as not to disturb the darkness of your neighbors

• Nearby day trips to explore include the old mining ruins of Tunnel Camp, and the Seven Troughs Range (all accessible by dirt road)

Please note that all sales are final and no refunds will be given, however, if you can’t attend for any reason - even last minute - you’ll be able to forward the face value of your ticket for a time period of one year to any future Dark Sky Festival or Meteor Shower Party happening at our Panamint Valley, CA or Sage Valley, NV locations. If the event has to be canceled for some crazy reason from our end, your ticket(s) will be credited towards any future Panamint Valley or Sage Valley Dark Sky Festival or Meteor Shower Party with no expiration!
